A college-going girl today died and four others were injured as an auto rickshaw violated the stop signal and was hit by a bus coming from the other end near Gouribari in Ultadanga area today.
Pooja Pal (20), a second year student of Jaipuria College, died on the spot while four others including the driver of the autorickshaw were seriously injured when the vehicle they were riding was hit by a bus from the other side at Arabindo Sarani and Raja Dhirendra Street crossing within the Burtolla Police Station limits at around 6.30 AM today, a senior official of the Kolkata Police said.
"Pooja was heading for her college when the accident happened. This is a case of signal violation. We are checking CCTV footages of the place and verifying details of the incident," the official said adding the driver of the bus fled the spot soon after the incident.
The three injured were being treated at the R G Kar Medical College and Hospital, he said adding the driver if found guilty would be arrested.
