Comedian Lily Tomlin marries writer Jane Wagner

American comedian Lily Tomlin married screenwriter Jane Wagner in a private ceremony.

The 74-year-old Tomlin married her partner Wagner, 42, on New Year's Eve in a private ceremony in Los Angeles, reported E! News.

"They're very happy," Tomlin's representative said.

The wedding news was first leaked by a friend of the couple, writer Liz Smith, in a daily newspaper based in Chicago.

"And my longtime friends, Lily Tomlin and her love, the writer Jane Wagner, got married on the eve of 2014. My wish is that their happiness will be as great as their combined talents," Smith wrote.

Tomlin had earlier hinted on planning a winter wedding this year.
