Though the farmers paid premium, they were denied insurance benefits due to delay in submission of the crop cutting report by the state government, Leader of the Opposition Bhupinder Singh alleged while participating in a discussion on an adjournment motion.

BJP legislature party leader K V Singhdeo also blamed the government for its alleged callous attitude towards farmers.

Cooperation minister Bikram Arukh admitted that farmers of 106 panchayats and urban local body areas had not received insurance benefits as the Centre refused to give its share in the Rastriya Krishi Vima Yojana.

He said he would take it up with the chief minister.

The minister said the state government had identified managers of three Bolangir-based banks who did not deposit the premium with insurance companies though they had collected it from farmers.

"The state government will certainly take action against those responsible for denial of crop insurance to farmers," the minister said.

He, however, said the Centre agreed to give a share in crop insurance for 497 GPss and ULBs.

Demanding assurance from the state government on compensation to calamity hit farmers, members of Congress and BJP walked out of the Assembly separately.
