Consider banning polythene in cities along the Ganga: HC to UP

A division bench comprising justices Ashok Bhushan and Arun Tandon passed the order while hearing a petition relating to pollution in the Ganga river.

The court also directed the district administration of Allahabad to ensure that no sewage was discharged into the river during the nearly three-month-long Maha Kumbh Mela beginning here next month.

The court also directed the state government to take steps to encourage the use of bio-degradable items instead of goods made of plastic and thermocol.

The court fixed December 18 as the next date of hearing in the matter.
