The ruling Congress and main opposition TDP find themselves in a tight spot over giving their response to Union Home Ministry, which has sought the opinion of eight political parties in Andhra Pradesh on the terms of reference of the GoM on the issue of division.
The two major parties are vertically divided on regional lines on the division issue, which make it difficult for them to come out with a singular response.
The Telangana leaders are in favour of furnishing a response, while their Seemandhra counterparts feel that giving any response to GoM amounts to accepting division.
Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy, state Congress president Botsa Satyanarayana are expected to meet the Congress leaders from the Telangana, Coastal Andhra and Rayalaseema regions over the issue soon, while the TDP is also expected to talk to its leaders to take a call on the matter.
Meanwhile, the YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) today conveyed its vehement opposition to division of Andhra Pradesh to the Union Home Ministry.
"We, hereby, reiterate our stated stand that we are against any move to divide the state of Andhra Pradesh," YSRCP president Y S Jaganmohan Reddy said in his reply to the Union Home Ministry.
"The decision of the Union Cabinet on 3rd October, 2013 to bifurcate the state of Andhra Pradesh is not acceptable. It is a well-known fact that 75 per cent of the state population has been agitating and is on roads opposing the move to bifurcate the state for over three months, yet the Congress party and the Union of India chose to ignore this fact and are going ahead to do their grave injustice," it said.
Meanwhile, the TRS, fighting for separate Telangana, has put forth various demands for Telangana state post its formation.
The TRS reiterated its demand that the overall policing of Telangana, including Hyderabad city, must remain with Telangana.
