Copper weakens 0.4% on global cues

Metal for delivery in June month fell by 0.43%

Press Trust of India New Delhi
Copper prices fell 0.44 per cent to Rs 417.15 per kg in futures market today as speculators trimmed positions amid a weak trend in global markets.

At the Multi Commodity Exchange, copper for delivery in far-month August traded lower by Rs 1.80, or 0.44 per cent, to Rs 41.15 per kg in a business turnover of 15 lots.

Also, metal for delivery in June month fell by Rs 1.80, or 0.43 per cent, to Rs 412.45 per kg in 774 lots.

Market analysts said weak trend in base metals overseas, shrugging off China's bid to boost growth with a third interest rate cut in six months in the world's largest consumer of the metal, mainly influenced copper prices at futures trade here.

Meanwhile, copper for delivery in three months retreated 0.4 per cent to USD 6,361 a metric tonne on the London Metal Exchange.

In Shanghai, the metal for delivery in July fell 0.7 per cent to 45,670 yuan (USD 7,355) a tonne.
