A local court today ordered seven years' rigorous imprisonment for ruling All Jharkhand Students Union (AJSU) party MLA Kamal Kishore Bhagat and another person in connection with an attack on a doctor in 1993.

Additional Judicial Commissioner Krishna Kumar's order on the quantum of sentence came after the court held Bhagat and A. Bodra guilty in the case which was lodged in 1993.

The FIR was lodged against the Lohardaga MLA and Bodra in 1993 for attacking the Ranchi-based doctor.

Yesterday, the two were convicted for violating IPC sections 325 (voluntarily causing grievous hurt) and 387 (putting or attempting to put a person in fear of death or grievous hurt in order to commit extortion).
