A local court today sentenced a man to life imprisonment after convicting him for murdering his mother and elder brother in 2012.
Additional Sessions Judge Bibhas Ranjan Dey sentenced Manas Bhakta to life imprisonment for hacking to death his mother Jalada Bhakta and elder brother Raju Bhakta at his home on October 13, 2012.
The court also fined the convicted person Rs 5000 and ordered an additional one year of rigorous imprisonment in case of non-payment.

According to the prosecution, Manas hacked to death his two near ones following an argument and left the bodies rotting inside the room and guarded the front door of the house to prevent anybody from spotting the bodies.
As foul smell emanated from the room after four days, the pradhan of local gram panchayat Bimal Mahato, accompanied by villagers, banged into the room and spotted the bodies. He then informed the police and filed an FIR with Jhargram police station leading to the arrest of Manas.
A total of eight witnesses deposed before the court.
