CPWD goes digital, enables e-payment for works done

The government's construction major Central Public Works Department (CPWD) has gone digital, enabling payments of Rs 20,000 crore per year electronically, an official release said today.
It executes a large number of works involving annual payments of over Rs 20,000 crore every year by its 400 field offices across the country, including in remote, hilly and northeastern parts.
The digital payments will be made from this month with all the field offices connected with the e-payment facility, the release said.

Digital payment mode covers over six lakh transactions, enabling real-time monitoring of expenditure in respect of each of the works across the country. It will also ensure efficient utilisation of funds, an official said.
With the CPWD now going digital, the volume of e-payments of the Housing and Urban Affairs Ministry and the CPWD would be about Rs 60,000 crore during the 2017-18 fiscal, the release said.
