Criminal carrying cash reward on head arrested

A wanted criminal, carrying a cash reward of Rs 5,000 on his head, had been arrested by Rajasthan police from Sonkh Road area bordering Uttar Pradesh after a brief gun fight, a senior police officer said here today.

Acting on a tip-off, policemen encircled Sahun Mev on Sonkh Road in Bharatpur district bordering Uttar Pradesh last night, superintendent of police (SP) Rahul Praksh said.

In a bid to escape, the accused started firing at policemen. But policemen too opened fire in retaliation and arrested him, the SP said, adding that a gun and ten live cartridges were recovered from his possession.
 

Mev, hailing from Uttar Pradesh, is accused in the murder of a police commando. He is also wanted in several cases of murder and loot in Rajasthan, Haryana and Uttar Pradesh, the SP said.

The accused was having a cash reward of Rs 5,000 on his head, he added.
