One person was shot dead by the police during an exchange of fire while he was trying to escape after looting a liquor shop here today.
A constable, Ali Athar, was injured in the encounter and was rushed to a hospital, police said.
Police tried to stop two miscreants fleeing after looting a liquor shop at Kamachcha crossing on a motorcycle but they entered into a shop and opened fire.
In the ensuing encounter, which lasted for about 20 minutes, Hemant Maurya, facing about 12 cases of loot and robbery, was shot dead while the other managed to escape, police said.
