Customs revenue as a ratio of the gross domestic product (GDP) was stagnant at around 1.6 per cent between 2009-10 and 2013-14, a report of the Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) said.
"Customs revenue as a ratio of GDP has been stagnant at an average of 1.6 per cent over the last five years," said the report tabled in Parliament today.
The revenue from customs as a percentage of indirect taxes rose from 34 per cent in 2009-10 to to 38 per cent in 2011-12, but it declined to 34 per cent in 2013-14.

Customs revenue as a percentage of gross tax is also at the lowest level after 2011-12.
Further, it said that the percentage share of indirect taxes to GDP was slightly above 4 per cent during the last five years.
"GDP increased from Rs 64.78 lakh crore in 2009-10 to Rs 113.55 lakh crore in 2013-14 whereas indirect taxes increased Rs 2.45 lakh crore in 2009-10 to Rs 5 lakh crore in 2013-14," it added.
