Press Trust of India Puducherry
: Daily wage workers of government owned Agro Services and Industries Corporation (PASIC) at nearby Thattanchavady today allegedly broke the windowpanes of the office and caused some minor damage to property in protest against a manager reportedly assaulting two workers.

The workers went on strike today urge the management to disburse their wages due for last 18 months, police said.

A heated exchange of words broke out between the Corporation manager after some of them virtually prevented him from entering the premises.

The workers alleged that he hit two of them with his helmet, causing bleeding injuries.

Irked, they vandalised the properties and damaged the window panes of the main entrance.

The official version was not immediately available.

Police rushed to the spot and restored calm.

The workers alleged that the management had not credited their contributions to PF and ESI and had also defaulted in disbursing their wages for the last 18 months.

Officials held talks with the workers and assured that their grievances would be taken up with the government for redressal, following which they dispersed.
