Life is limping back to normalcy in Gwalior, Bhind, and Morena districts of Madhya Pradesh that witnessed violent protests during Bharat bandh called by Dalits on April 2, prompting authorities to relax the curfew for extended hours today.
Eight people, including six Dalits, were killed and and 153 people were injured in the large-scale violence during the Bharat bandh called against alleged dilution of the Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe (Prevention of Atrocities) Act by the Supreme Court.
Curfew was relaxed for the better part of the day today in the three districts, which remained almost peaceful, according to officials.
The curfew was eased for ten hours in Gwalior, six hours in Bhind, and nine hours in Morena, they said.
Gwalior Superintendent of Police Dr Ashish said the curfew was relaxed from 8 AM to 6 PM in Thatipur, Murar, and Gola Ka Mandi areas.

He said more than 100 people have been arrested so far in connection with the violence.
In Bhind city, the curfew was eased from 10 AM to 4 PM, said district collector Ilayaraja T.
He said police have arrested 150 people so far in connection with the April 2 protests.
Morena Collector Bhaskar Lakshkar said the curfew was relaxed in Kotwali, Station Road and Civil lines police station areas from 10 AM to 7 PM.
Over 130 people have been arrested in the district, he said.
Out of the eight deceased, four hailed from Bhind district, three from Gwalior district, and one from Morena district.
