Debashis Das wins in Siddha Youth Chess Championship round one

Top seed GM Debashis Das of Odisha won comfortably against Angira Choudhuri with the black pieces

In round one of the Siddha Chess For Youth Championship here today.

Second seed IM Swapnil Dhopade of the Railways beat Arpan Das (jr), while former champion and fourth seed Bitan Banerjee won a piece which fetched him the full point against Samriddhaa Ghosh.

In another result, visually challenged Yudhajeet De put up a valiant fight against National Women's champion Mary Ann Gomes, also in a Sicilian defence, before succumbing in 58 moves after Mary Ann converted her passed pawn to a queen.

WGM Kiran Manisha Mohanty of Odisha, prevailed over Utsav Chatterjee while Bhakti Kulkarni of Mahrashtra was stretched to 55 moves by lowly rated Nilanta Chanda on the 5th board.
 

State women's Champion Arpita Mukherjee checkmated Arya Bhakta in 31 moves with the black pieces in an irregular Queen's pawn opening.

Over 800 are vying for top honours in the chess tournament for youth, which will conclude on October 19.
