Debt-ridden farmer commits suicide in UP

A 32-year-old farmer today allegedly committed suicide by hanging as he was unable to repay debts in Sorla village here, police said.

The farmer, Laltesh, today hanged himself from the ceiling at his house on failing to repay loan of Rs 3.5 lakh he had taken from bank and private lenders, they said.

According to police, he possessed two bighas of land in the village and had taken Rs 1.5 lakh from a nationalised bank for treatment of his father which he failed to return.

Laltesh was depressed as he was being pressed by the creditors for repayment of the loan.
 

He is survived by wife and two children.

An FIR has been lodged in the matter and the body sent for postmortem, SHO of Anoopshahr police station, Udaiveer Baliyan said.
