Defunct notes seized in Chennai, one detained

Demonetised currency notes amounting to Rs 44.7 crore were seized from a person here, police said today.

The scrapped currency in Rs 1,000 and Rs 500 denominations was recovered on a specific tip-off, from the premises of one Dhandapani in Kodambakkam here, they said.

The man is being questioned, the police said, adding information about the money seizure was shared with Reserve Bank of India too.
