A bureaucrat in the Commerce Ministry has given expression to the artist inside her through a series of paintings, which are being showcased here.

A week-long exhibition of paintings, depicting an interplay of nature and human thoughts by Subhra Singh is being showcased at AIFACS gallery here beginning November 12.

The show titled "Anhad - the Limitless" showcases several works in a colourful semi-abstract style.

Singh says she derives her inspiration through her "fascination of the supreme strength of a human soul in its struggle for survival alone or in togetherness."

The range of the work includes a charcoal-coloured painting of a railway tunnel that looks like a photograph from a distance. Then there is a painting of rows of trees and canvasses filled with other brightly coloured abstract works.

"Paintings is a very consuming passion and I paint to express myself through the medium of colors," says Shubhra.

Born in Uttar Pradesh and educated in Delhi, the artist says she had set her mind on becoming a lecturer but ended up as a bureaucrat. It was only a decade ago, says Shubhra that she discovered the artist inside her.

"I am in a full time job with two adult beautiful kids. Apart from painting canvasses I also love to run marathons," says Subhra.

Previously, the artist had showcased the same set of works at another exhibition at the Lalit Kala Akademi here. The upcoming show is the seventh show for the artist.
