Delhi government has denied parole to Ajay Chautala, son of former Haryana Chief Minister O P Chautala, who is serving 10-year prison term in Tihar Jail after being convicted by the Delhi High Court in teachers' recruitment scam case.

Chautala had sought parole, but his application was rejected by the home department of Delhi Government, a senior Delhi government official said.

Lt Governor (LG) Najeeb Jung, had last month, granted one month parole to 80-year-old former Haryana Chief Minister O P Chautala to prepare his appeal against the High Court's March 5 judgement, upholding the conviction and ten years sentence awarded to him by a trial court in the case.

"Ajay Chautala had applied for parole to Tihar officials and his file was sent to the home department of Delhi government, which found his reasons were not specific and was unfit to qualify for parole. So his parole request was rejected," the senior official said.

Besides father and son, the court had upheld the conviction and 10-year jail term of three others - whistle-blower IAS officer Sanjiv Kumar, the then officer on special duty (OSD) to the Chief Minister IAS officer Vidya Dhar, and Sher Singh Badshami, then MLA and political adviser to Chautala senior.
