11,000 toilets are planned to be constructed by the end of the next finacial year towards making the national capital open defecation-free, Delhi government today said in its annual budget.
Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia, while presenting the budget in the Assembly, said the AAP government has prepared a sanitation plan based on a survey done by the Delhi Urban Shelter Improvement Board (DUSIB) in areas where people defecate in the open.
"A number of steps have been taken to make Delhi open defecation-free. I would like to congratulate the whole team of DUSIB as they continued to work for weeks together to survey the area by visiting early in the morning, from 3 AM, places where people defecate in the open," he said.

"Accordingly, 8,000 clean and modern toilets have already been constructed and 6,000 more toilets are to be completed by June 2017. Besides, 5,000 toilets will be constructed in 2017-18," Sisodia, who also holds the finance portfolio, said.
So, 19,000 toilets will be constructed in total towards making entire Delhi open defecation-free, he added.
The Deputy Chief Minister, however, did not specify the timeline for building these additional toilets.
