Sultry weather conditions gripped the national capital today with the mercury maintaining an upward trend and humidity soared to a high of 70 per cent.
The maximum temperature during the day, as recorded at the official observatory at Safdarjung, settled at 43 degree Celsius, five notches above normal and the minimum remained three points above normal at 31 degree Celsius.
At Palam observatory, the maximum temperature was recorded at 44.7 degrees Celsius, in Ayanagar at 44 degree Celsius and 43.6 degree Celsius in Ridge area.
Humidity levels settled between 32 and 70 per cent during the day, MeT department officials said, adding that humidity has steadily risen in the city over the last few days.
According to weather officials, it is the occurrence of intermittent showers which caused humidity levels to increase.
Yesterday, humidity levels were between 40 and 79 per cent while the maximum temperature had settled at 41.3 degree, and the minimum was recorded at 28.4 degree Celsius.
"There would be partly cloudy sky tomorrow and thundery conditions may occur in some parts of the national capital while maximum and minimum temperature may settle at 42 and 30 degree Celsius respectively," said a MeT official.
