A member of the district panchayat was today shot dead while three of his family members were injured after they were attacked by a group of unidentified persons at village Devdha here, police said.
The deceased has been identified as Antarsingh Tadwal(30). Three to four unidentified persons stormed into his house in the wee hours and injured his brother Bhurasingh, Dahi Police Station Inspector R C Solanki said.
After this, they opened fire at Antarsingh and when his father Bondarsingh and grandmother Sakdibai came to his rescue they injured them with weapons. Antarsingh died on the spot, he said.

Antarsingh was a popular leader of the area and had won the district panchayat elections with a huge margin as an independent candidate recently. He had joined BJP a couple of days ago.
The injured have been admitted to a hospital in neighbouring Barwani district, the officer said, adding that the body has been sent for post mortem.
A case in this connection has been registered and efforts are on to nab the accused, he added.
