High drama was witnessed in Yamunanagar in Haryana, with police registering a case against the in-laws of a woman lawyer on charges of dowry harassment, with both sides trading charges and some cops getting roughed up in their bid to intervene in the dispute.

A police official said today that the woman lawyer, who hails from Chandigarh, had dispute with her in-laws.

Last week, the father-in-law of the woman alleged that she had entered his house in Yamunanagar's HUDA Sector 17 when he and his wife were away, Yamunanagar SP Shashank Anand said.

"According to the complaint given by the woman's father-in-law, the woman along with her brother had forcibly entered the house in their absence and they discovered this when they returned," Anand said.

The entry to in-laws was refused and they approached the police.

"The police intervened in the matter through the Women's Cell. Soon, the woman and her in-laws had mutual reconciliation and both parties said they will try and live together, the SP said.

However, yesterday the dispute again cropped up. The in-laws did not allow the woman to gain entry to the house when she returned after being out for some time.

"The woman and some of her accomplice started pelting stones and broke window panes, as per the complaint of her in-laws," the SP said.

The in-laws rang up the police, after which Yamunanagar's SHO along with a woman ASI and three PCR vans were rushed to the place.

"...The woman and her brother entered the house and started beating mother-in-law after which police had to intervene... We tried to convince the woman, but she slapped our chowki in-charge and her action was video-graphed," the SP said.

He said the woman's in-laws have filed case of eviction of daughter-in-law.

Anand said that on the woman's complaint, a FIR under Section 498A of the Anti-Dowry Act, was registered against her in-laws and two other persons.

"Her in-laws also lodged a complaint against her and her family members stating that during their absence some ornaments were stolen from the house," the SP added.

A third FIR was also registered on the complaint of the Chowki in-charge, "who stated that he along with some police officials were badly roughed up by the woman and her accomplice," the SP said.
