2 women among 3 of family sentenced to life in dowry death

A fast-track court here today awarded life sentence to three persons of a family, including two women, in a dowry death case.

Special judge Vimlesh Tanwar sentenced the victim's mother-in-law Sudesh Rani, brother-in-law Sunil and sister-in-law Snehlata.

According to the prosecution, the deceased, Suman, was married with to Sudesh Rani's son, a resident of Shahzadpur, a few years ago. On September 6, 2012, Suman sustained serious burn injuries and died four days later at PGIMER, Chandigarh.

The parents of the deceased in their complaint filed with the police had alleged that the trio used to harass Suman for dowry. They alleged that the accused had poured kerosene on their daughter and later set her on fire.
 

The deceased in her dying declaration at the hospital had said that her mother-in-law, brother-in-law and sister-in-law had poured kerosene and set her on fire. Later the police had registered a murder case against three.
