The Delhi Urban Shelter Improvement Board (DUSIB) today decided to waive the user charges on the usage of 19,000 toilet seats run by it.
The decision was taken at a board meeting of the DUSIB, headed by Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal.
"The board decided to waive the user charges on the usage of 19,000 toilet seats run by the DUSIB. These toilets would be free for usage from January 1, 2018," the government said in a statement.

"This comes as a new year gift from the Delhi government to the residents of JJ colonies," it said.
It also stated that running of these toilets for free will incur a cost of Rs 50 crores, which the Delhi government will bear.
The board also approved the winter action plan stating different activities to be conducted by the DUSIB in coordination with other departments.
The DUSIB control room for winter relief will start functioning from November 15.
