Dutch health min to visit India; Health, sport MoUs on agenda

Strengthening of collaboration between the Netherlands and India in the areas of health and sports would be on the agenda when Dutch Minister Edith Schippers visits India between January 29 and 31.

Schippers, the Dutch Minister for Health, Welfare and Sport, would be signing two MoUs in a bid to strengthen Indo-Dutch collaboration in the fields of sports and health, besides launching a research project during her three-day visit, an official statement said.

The MoU between India and the Netherlands would enable close collaboration on area development.

The MoU on health will enable both countries to work closer together on issues such as resistance to antibiotics, e-health, life sciences and medical technology.
 

Along with Union Minister for Science and Technology, Jaipal Reddy, Schippers will also launch a research project that will be jointly executed by the All India Institute for Medical Sciences (AIIMS) and Erasmus Medical Centre, Rotterdam.

The two medical institutes will research into the causes of stroke and cognitive decline.

On January 30, Schippers will do a cycling tour around and of the Major Dhyan Chand National Stadium here with a view to promoting the Netherlands as a nation of bicycles and showcase cycling as a healthy and nature-friendly mode of transport.

The forthcoming visit of the Dutch Health Minister will be a follow-up of her previous visit to India in May, 2012.
