Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) of Maharashtra, Baldev Singh, on Saturday said the state election machinery is geared up to conduct Assembly polls in a "free, fair and transparent" manner.

Assembly polls will be held in Maharashtra on October 21, the Election Commission of India announced earlier in the day.

Addressing a press conference here, Singh said enrollment of new names in voter list will continue till the end of the process of filing of nomination papers.

"We intend to ensure that voting percentage rises as compared to 60.32 per cent in 2014 assembly elections, 50.67 per cent in 2009 assembly elections and 60.79 per cent in 2019 Lok Sabha polls," he added.

Compared to the 2014 assembly elections, the number of voters has increased by 59,17,901, he said.

Polling stations in the state have increased by 5,325 in the last five years, Singh said.

A total of 1.80 lakh EVMs will be deployed in October 21 elections, he added.
