Officials say a helicopter belonging to a European Union mission in Kosovo has crashed at the country's main airport, injuring one member of the mission.

Kosovo airport spokeswoman Valentina Gara said the helicopter of the EU's rule of law and justice mission crashed during a training flight today.

She said the injured person has been taken to hospital for treatment and the airport has been temporarily closed.

The spokesman for the EU mission, Roland Bless, confirmed the incident but gave no further details. A probe has been launched to determine what caused the crash.

The mission, known as EULEX helps Kosovo authorities fight organized crime, corruption and war crimes committed during the 1998-99 Kosovo war.

Kosovo seceded from Serbia in 2008, a move strongly rejected by Belgrade.
