Ex-collector suspended on corruption charge in Odisha

The state government today placed a senior Odisha Administrative Service (OAS) official under suspension on charge of corruption when the official was holding the post of district magistrate-cum-collector of Balangir, an official release said.

The official identified as Debraj Mishra, presently working in the schedule caste and scheduled tribe development department, was found indulging in corrupt practices in the recruitment of revenue inspector (RI), assistant RI and Amin in Balangir district.

The anti-corruption vigilance department probed into the alleged corruption in the recruitment in Balangir district when Mishra was the district collector.

During his tenure from August 2012 to July 2013, Mishra had given government jobs in fraudulent manner, the vigilance probe mentioned in its report, a release issued by the Chief Minister's office said.
 

The state government's action was based on the vigilance inquiry report, it said adding, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik has also directed the vigilance department to lodge a criminal case against Mishra for his act of corrupt practice.

Mishra was not immediately available for his comment over the matter.
