A CBI court today convicted a former senior official of the Employees' State Insurance Corporation (ESIC) for accepting bribe of Rs 5,000 and sentenced him to rigorous imprisonment for a period of three years.
The special judge for CBI cases V S Murkute also sentenced the former deputy director P N Dharmadhikari to RI of two years and imposed on him fine of Rs 2,000 under the Prevention of Corruption Act 1988. Both the sentences will run concurrently.
The court also held his accomplice P B Bubukwar guilty under the Prevention of Corruption Act 1988 and sentenced the latter to one-year rigorous imprisonment.

A case was registered against the duo in December 2005 by CBI after Dharmadhikari was caught red-handed while accepting bribe of Rs 5,000 through his aide Bubukwar from a local hotelier for returning official favour.
According to prosecution, Dharmadhikari had sought the bribe of Rs 10,000 to sanction orders to lift seizure of bank accounts of the complainant.
The prosecution was represented by special counsel Vijay Kolhe.
