A former Sarpanch and eight members of a gang of dacoits were todayarrestedin connection with the murder of a jeweller in Chhattisgarh's Raigarh district, police said.
Dacoits struck at the house of jeweller Vijay Agrawal (65) in Kharsia town of the district on the night of April 15, said Inspector General of Police (Bilaspur range) Purshottam Gautam. Agrawal was murdered during the incident.
Of the arrested men, Sanjay Agrawal (45), Mahendra Kumar Kanwar (41), Narsingh Yadav (25) and Gendram Yadav (25) were natives of Janjgir Champa district while Abhijeet Ramgadhiya (20), Ashish Saraunde (42), Vishnu Nagpure (25), Praveen Suryawanshi (25) and Digamber Khapekar (30) belonged to Nagpur in Maharashtra, he said.

Sanjay Agrawal who was Sarpanch of Jharra village in Janjgir-Champa between 2009-16 and also runs a hotel was the mastermind behind the dacoity, the IG said.
He was debt-ridden and in urgent need of money, so he hired the other men and planned the dacoity, said the IG.
