Three shopkeepers were today injured when an alleged extortionist and his five accomplices attacked them with sharp-edged weapons at their shop in Hoshiarpur bazaar.

The injured shop owners were identified as Pankaj Bagga, Mukesh Bagga and Raju, police said.

In a complaint filed with police, Pankaj alleged that Bhim Gujjar, an alleged extortionist, came to his shop last night and demanded money.

When he refused to give him cash, Bhim snatched a bag containing Rs 91,000 in cash and tried to flee in a car. He, however, was stopped with a brief chase, though Bhim managed to flee after leaving cash in the car.

Today afternoon, Bhim, along with his five accomplices, came to his shop to take revenge. He allegedly attacked Pankaj and his brother Mukesh. Another shopkeeper, Raju, who came to their rescue was also injured.

A case had been registered and further investigations were on, a police officer said.
