Fake notes with face value of Rs 1 lakh seized, one arrested

A man was arrested today from the Maidan area of the city for possession of fake notes with face value of Rs 1 lakh, police said.

Acting on a tip-off from a prisoner, the Kolkata Police Special Task Force (STF) unit nabbed Mitha Lal from Shahid Minar Ground in Maidan police station area and recovered 50 pieces of Fake Indian Currency Notes (FICN) of Rs 2,000 denomination each, a senior officer said.

The accused, a member of an interstate FICN racket, hails from Jalor district in Rajasthan, the STF officer said.

"We are looking into the matter and questioning him to find out more about the racket," he added.
