Farmer allegedly duped by Pakistan-based lottery fraudster

"Munna Kaiwart, a native of Lawar Bhothidih village of the district, had received a message on January 9 on his cellular phone that he won a lottery of Rs 25 lakh and after depositing Rs 25,000 for income tax formalities, he will be given the money," Superintendent of Police (SP) Abhishek Meena said.

The farmer claimed that the message was from Pakistan, the SP said.

Later, Munna borrowed the money by mortgaging his land and deposited it into the bank account mentioned in the message.

After two days, when Munna did not receive the lottery money, he contacted the number from which he had received the message asking for the money, the SP said.

 

The fraudster demaded an additional Rs 10,000 from Munna to get the winning amount, after which he informed the police.

A case has been registered, the SP said.
