An FIR has been registered against a resident of Ranip area here after "lewd" comments were found posted on his Facebook page, apparently on the dressing style of the grand daughter of a senior BJP politician from Gujarat, police said today.
The comments were posted in context with the state government's 'Save Girl Child' programme, they said.
"As per the complaint lodged with us, one Roshan Shah posted lewd comments on the dressing style of the grand daughter of a prominent politician on his Facebook page, which is a cognisable offence under section 66 of IT Act and section 354 (a) of IPC, punishable with one year imprisonment," said Joint Commissioner of Police (City Crime Branch) A K Sharma.

The police are now trying to trace the origin of the comments.
The crime branch registered the FIR on August 25 following a complaint filed by a city-based social activist, Akshay Patel alleging that Shah tried to defame the politician.
"We have started our investigation into the case. To find out the origin of these comments, we are now in the process to acquire logs as well IP address from Facebook server," said Sharma.
Police have withheld the name of the politician, who belonged to the ruling BJP.
The Cyber Cell of the crime branch is investigating the case, the officer said.
