Fish farmers and entrepreneurs should come forward to establish commercial ornamental fish culture units for export promotion and for augmenting their income levels, a fisheries college official said today.
Speaking at a training programme on export oriented ornamental fish farming, Dr G Sugumar, Dean In-Charge of Fisheries College and Research Institute here, said the ornamental fish culture is being considered as an important activity because of the export market.
The net worth of world ornamental fish trade is worth Rs.3,000 crore and Indian contribution to the trade is negligible despite vast potential, he said.
