Fishermen resumes fishing

The fishermen from this island today resumed their fishing activity after a long gap.

Though fishermen of other parts of the Ramanathapuram district had resumed the fishing after the news reports about the reported decision of the Sri Lankan President to release the five fishermen sentenced to death by a Sri Lankan Court for alleged drug trafficking, the fishermen from this island demanded that an official announcement should come regarding the release of the fishermen, Emirit, President of Fishermen association said.

In the meanwhile a meeting of the Association held here decided to go for fishing from today as the fishermen did not have any other livelihood. Fishermen in more than 600 fishing boats left for fishing despite heavy rains.
