Fishing boat hit by cargo vessel off Kollam coast

A fishing boat with six men on board was today hit by a cargo vessel about 38.9 nautical miles from here in international waters, Fisheries minister J Mercykutty Amma said.

The six fishermen were rescued by other boats nearby, the minister told PTI.

The mishap occurred at 12.30 pm.

Attempts are on to identify the vessel which hit the boat and the Navy's help has been sought, she said.

Naval sources said an advanced light helicopter and a Dornier aircraft had also been deployed for search and rescue operations.
