Five persons were killed when a motorcycle they were riding on was hit by a coal-laden truck in Musanagar area of Kanpur Dehat district, some 100 km from here.

According to the district police spokesperson, the mishap took place last evening when the five persons, identified as Pooran Singh (20), Kamlesh (24), Surender (22), Shiv Swaroop (18) and Vijay (20), were going to a nearby fair on their bike.

While overtaking a truck on Mughal road, their bike was hit by the coal-laden vehicle which was coming from Ghatampur city.

As the truck overturned, all the five youths came under its impact and were crushed to death. Three of them even got stuck in the truck and were pushed under the vehicle for a few meters.

However, the driver and cleaner of the truck managed to escape. The accident site was littered by coal and irate locals blocked the road. Police rushed to the spot and cleared the jam after strenuous efforts, late night.

Locals were pacified and the bodies were sent for post-mortem later. Police is investigating the matter and search for absconding driver-cleaner duo is underway.
