Five policemen, including an Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI), have been dismissed from service for illegally taking money from truck drivers in the district.
Of the five policemen, four constables were suspended by Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) yesterday while an ASI was suspended by the Deputy Inspector General (DIG), Bhagalpur.
Senior Superintendent of Police Manoj Kumar said that four constables who have been dismissed from service are Kundan Kumar, Om Prakash Sahu, Ranjit Kumar and Mohammad Razzak.
DIG Bhagalpur Vikas Vaibhav dismissed ASI Rajaram Singh, the SSP said adding that DIG accepted his recommendation to dismiss the ASI.
It may be noted that a video had gone viral in June last year that showed them (five policemen) fleecing truckers near toll tax barrier of Bhagalpur-Vikramshila bridge.
DIG had ordered a probe into the matter, the SSP said.
Deputy Superintendent of Police (DySP)(Headquarters) Ramesh Kumar was made an inquiry officer who held all the five policemen guilty of illegally collecting money from truck drivers.
The DySP submitted his report to the SSP in this regard.
