Former DMDK leader Panruti S Ramachandran, who quit the party last month besides retiring from active politics, has been nominated for a Tamil Nadu government award.
Ramachandran has been nominated for this year's "Perarignar Anna Award," named after the Dravidian veteran and former Chief Minister C N Annadurai.
It is one among the nine awards constituted in the names of Tamil personalities and leaders such as poet Thiruvalluvar and E V Ramasamy, fondly addressed as 'Thanthai Periyar.'

Chief Minister Jayalalithaa has directed that the awardees be presented with the awards at a function here on January 15, coinciding with Thiruvalluvar Day, a state government release said.
The awards carry Rs one lakh cash, a gold medal weighing a sovereign and citation. The others nominated under various categories include a Taiwanese poet.
Ramachandran, Deputy Leader of DMDK Legislature prior to his resignation, had also quit as MLA last month citing health reasons.
