A Fast Track Court in Tindivanam in Tamil Nadu today acquitted former Puducherry Education Minister P M L Kalyanasundaram of all charges relating to impersonation in the SSLC supplementary public exam held in that town in 2011.
Additional District Sessions Judge R Shanmuganadhan set aside the order of Judicial Magistrate-I O, convicting Kalyanasundaram and two others and sentencing them to two years imprisonment in January this year, saying the prosecution had failed to prove the charges and also that the submitted documents were forged.
The prosecution case was that Kalyanasundaram, elected on an AINRC ticket from Lawspet, had allegedly entered into a criminal conspiracy with Aadhavan, a teacher in a government school, and Rajinikanth, a clerk in Education Department, and used forged documents to appear for the exam in September 2011 in Tindivanam.
Kalyanasundaram and the other two faced charges under IPC sections of 120-B (criminal conspiracy), 468 (forgery for purpose of cheating) read with section 109 (punishment for abetment).
He was dropped from the Rangasamy-led ministry as soon as the trial had commenced in 2012.
