Former Maha Cong chief to organise 'Rajiv memorial campaign'

Former Maharashtra Pradesh Congress Committee president Ranjit Deshmukh today said he was going to organise 'Rajiv Gandhi memorial campaign' in the state ahead of the Assembly elections.

"I met Sonia Gandhi in Delhi recently and discussed the campaign programme. We will be taking out a rally called 'Chaitanya yatra' from Aurangabad from August 20, Rajiv Gandhi's birth anniversary," Deshmukh said.

It would culminate in Nagpur on August 31 after passing through 52 Assembly constituencies, the former minister said.

"We have requested Sonia Gandhi to attend the concluding event at Nagpur and she has given her consent," he said.
