A former member of erstwhile People's War Group was today arrested in Secunderabad here for illegal possession of weapon, police said.

The sleuths of commissioner's task force (central zone) nabbed Bandaru Hanumanth Rayudu, a resident of Anantapur district of Andhra Pradesh, and seized a country-made 9mm pistol and three live rounds, additional deputy commissioner of police N Koti Reddy said.

Rayudu surrendered before Anantapur police in 1995, after the death of his sister Sridevi, also a PWG member, in an encounter with police. His brother-in-law Narasimha Reddy continued to be a member of PWG.

In 1997 Reddy gave him a pistol and cartridges for self-protection, according to the police.

In 1998, Reddy too was killed in an encounter with police.

Acting on a tip-off, Rayudu was today arrested in Chilkalguda area in Secunderabad where he had come to meet a friend, police added.
