Rail passengers robbed of gold jewellery in AP

A group of dacoits robbed gold ornaments, around 150 gms, from passengers in the Hyderabad-bound Chennai Express early today in Guntur district of Andhra Pradesh, Government Railway Police (GRP) said.

The incident occurred between Piduguralla and Guntur railway stations when some unidentified persons stopped the train after pulling the chain of one of the bogies and robbed women passengers who were sleeping near the windows in three sleeper coaches before fleeing, they said.

"Some of the passengers approached the Secunderabad GRP and lodged complaints of the incident. Around 12-15 tolas of gold was snatched away from the passengers by as many as 15 offenders," a GRP official said.
 

A woman passenger said that some unidentified persons snatched away her 10-gram gold chain from her neck from outside the bogie. Another passenger said the unknown persons pelted stones when some passengers tried to get down from the bogie.

Further investigations were on, they added.
