Four killed, 24 injured in road mishap

Four persons, including an infant, were killed and 24 others injured when a state transport bus collided with a container truck here, police said today.

Some of the passengers were seriously injured, they said.

The mishap occurred last night near Murtizapur tehsil town in the district when the bus going from Amravati to Buldhana collided head-on with a container truck coming from the opposite direction.

Because of the impact of the collision, some of the passengers were crushed inside the bus.

Three of the deceased have been identified as - Kiran Bhursakle (53 - from Amravati), Ravindra Tayde (52 - from Akola), Vir Bendwal (10 months - from Buldhana). Another deceased person was yet to be identified.
 

Those seriously injured in the mishap have been shifted to Akola civil hospital.

The Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation provided an immediate help of Rs 5,000 to the kin of the deceased and Rs 500 to each of the injured persons.

A case has been registered in connection with the mishap, police said.

Local BJP MLA Gowardhan Sharma and some other political activists visited the hospital here to enquire about the condition of the injured.
