Four of a family drowns in Amaravathi river

Four members of a family, including a woman, who had gone to take a dip in Amaravathi river in Tirupur district, met with watery grave, police said today.

Sindhupriya, along with her husband Arun Joelraj from Chennai had come to her parents' house for Christmas holidays.

After celebrating the festival, the couples along with two others--Rajkumar (Sindhrupriya's brother) and Androse (her coiusin) had gone to take bathe in nearby Amaravathi rive in the evening, they said.

As Sindhupriya, who went to some distance, was caught in the current, Joelraj went to rescue her. However, he was also caught in the current and drowned.
 

Andrews and Rajkumar, who noticed the couple struggling, jumped to save them. However, they were also caught in the current and all the four met with watery grave, police said.

With the help of Fire Service and Rescue personnel, all the bodies were retrieved and further investigations are on, police said.
