Fox co-chairman Gary Newman has said that he is "hopeful" of reviving 'The X-Files', in spite of the 'challenges' that it will entail.

The network stoked rumours of a possible return for the David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson-starring series at the TCA press tour this month, reported Digital Spy.

Newman and fellow Fox co-chairman Dana Walden said that talks remain ongoing about bringing a new version of 'The X-Files' to screens.

Walden made it clear that Fox "wouldn't" commission a new version of 'The X-Files' without involvement from creator Chris Carter.

"I am more hopeful than optimistic right now. I am hopeful it will come together. But it will be challenging to make that happen," Newman added.

'The X-Files' originally aired on Fox from 1993 to 2002, and spun-off into two feature films.
