Freed US pastor thanks Trump, who hails 'tremendous step' with Turkey

- American pastor Andrew Brunson on Saturday thanked President Donald Trump for his efforts to facilitate his release after two years in detention in Turkey on terror-related charges, in a hero's welcome at the White House.

Trump called Brunson's return home a "tremendous step" forward in relations with Ankara. The two NATO allies suffered a major diplomatic rift over the detention of Brunson, an evangelical Presbyterian minister.
