Gandhi Jayanti celebrated in Singapore

Mahatma Gandhi's 145th birth anniversary was celebrated here today with the Indian High Commission here and local community leaders paying tributes ti the Father of the Nation.
Indian High Commissioner in Singapore Vijay Thakur Singh led the local community leaders in commemorating the day.
South Africa's High Commissioner H F Ngubeni also joined the celebrations at the Global Indian International School.

The two High Commissioners and community leaders garlanded Gandhi's statue while students sang patriotic songs.
Another event was organised at the Mahatma Gandhi Memorial Hall in Little India, a hub of Indian businesses here.
Born on October 2, 1869 in Gujarat's Porbandar, Gandhi had his early political training in South Africa while working among the local Indian community facing discrimination.
